Carbon Tax Rebate Schedules

The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR), formerly known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment, operates on a quarterly disbursement cycle. In Alberta, these payments are structured to compensate for the federal fuel charge applied to combustible heating sources. The distribution occurs through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and is contingent upon the timely filing of annual income tax returns.

For the fiscal year 2024-2025, the scheduled payment dates are fixed for the 15th of April, July, October, and January. If the 15th falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the transfer is initiated on the preceding business day. Residents must ensure their direct deposit information is verified within the CRA My Account portal at least 10 business days prior to these dates to avoid check-based delays.

Current Disbursement Tiers:

  • Individual: $225.00
  • Spouse/Common-law: $112.50
  • Per Child (Under 19): $56.25
  • Rural Supplement: +20% of Base

Failure to receive a payment within 10 business days of the scheduled date requires a formal inquiry via the CRA benefit line. Documentation of residency and household composition may be requested during periodic audits of the rebate program to maintain fiscal integrity.

Social Support Framework

Low-Income Support Eligibility

Provincial support mechanisms in Alberta are tiered based on the Adjusted Family Net Income (AFNI). These programs, such as the Alberta Seniors Benefit and the Special Needs Assistance for Seniors, provide direct financial relief for essential utility costs and home maintenance required for safety.

Eligibility is determined through an automated assessment of the previous year's tax data. For households experiencing a sudden drop in income due to medical or employment factors, a manual reassessment can be requested through the Ministry of Seniors, Community and Social Services.

Utility Rebates

Available for households where utility costs exceed 25% of gross monthly income.
